Miele Solaris S-514 Vacuum CleanerSo how does the Miele Solaris S-514 vacuum cleaner rate? The Miele Solaris canister vacuum is a part of s500 series from Miele. It is one of their least expensive models. Ideal for low to medium pile wall to wall carpeting, this mid sized canister cleaner has an optional HEPA filter and comes with an electro brush attachment.Product: Miele Solaris s514 vacuum cleaner Claim to fame: This is a powerful canister vacuum with a 1200 watt vortex motor and 2 fan design. Weighing in at just 13.5 pounds this cleaner is light enough to maneuver and carry upstairs. It has an ergonomic handle, durable plastic shell and nice wide rubber bumper guard to protect your furniture. . It comes equipped with a natural bristle dusting brush, crevice tool and upholstery tool. But it's the super quiet operation that some feel make it worth every cent spent to own one. Pros: Variable Power Settings The six power settings (200-1220 watts) let you select the amount of suction needed for the job. Extremely Maneuverable Equipped with a three wheels design gives you 360 degrees of swivel. That and a 360 degree swiveling hose makes it easy to clean in any direction without fear of hose entanglements. Super Air Clean Filter is of the electrostatically charged variety. Designed to capture far more allergens than the average vacuum cleaner Spring Loaded Dust Bag that closes automatically for hygienic disposal. This is a nice touch as that means the bag will never leak or cover you in your own vacuum dust when emptying it. Telescopic Wand that connects the hose to the floor tool. It is adjustable and make cleaning all hard to reach spots much easier. Direct Connect PowerBrush You'll appreciate being Direct connect ready since that means there's no cord to plug into the power brush. It's cleverly hidden within the telescoping wand for added convenience. Hidden Helpers The three included tools are easily stored out of sight in the onboard compartment so you don't have to worry about losing them. Blower Option capability makes it easy to blast dust lurking in corners for easier vacuuming. Although if you've got dust build up in the corners how long has it been since you vacuumed last? Parked Mode Tripping the vacuum is less of a problem if you decide to leave it in hold mode for some time. The parking feature in the power nozzle lets you stand this model upright during pause mode and in storage. Cons: The most common complaint is that the Solaris does not come with the parquet brush you'd need to properly vacuum hardwood or tile floors. So you may have to live with dust in cracks and cervices unless you spring for that extra feature. Or if you don't have anything but wall to wall carpet this may not matter to you. The HEPA filter is optional and not cheap. Each may well run you in excess of $50 This model lacks the fingertips controls found on newer models of Miele. So you can not do any power controlling from the handle. You'll have to bend over and adjust the dial found on the canister body itself. The dust bag is on the smallish side with a 3.7 quart capacity. So depending on how often you vacuum it may not last for long. Bottom line: The Miele Solaris is quiet and powerful - which may invigorate your house cleaning. Besides, what more can do you ask from a vacuum? Yes it is lacking some creature comforts found in it's higher priced cousins, but if you can live without fingertip controls it may be the Miele for you.
